Sources put Anthropic in a $35 billion Lambda cloud deal on a Hut 8 Texas campus Nvidia would lease
Sources told Anissa Gardizy at the Wall Street Journal, via Techmeme, that Anthropic has signed a $35 billion cloud deal with Nvidia-backed Lambda, and that Nvidia will hold the lease on, and supply chips to, a Hut 8-built data center in Texas.
Reuters, reprinted by CNA, said a source familiar with the matter put the same figure on a Nueces County project of about 350 megawatts, speaking Monday on condition of anonymity because the information is not public.
Neither print is a company announcement. A Bloomberg reprint says a representative for Anthropic declined to comment. Nvidia, Lambda, and Hut 8 had not confirmed.
Hut 8, a crypto miner turned data-center builder, puts up the hall at Beacon Point. Nvidia, if the Journal is right, holds the lease and fills the hall with its chips.
Lambda, the neocloud Nvidia backs, sells the resulting compute. Anthropic is the offtaker, the customer who would actually run models there. That is three Nvidia touchpoints on one campus: tenant, chip vendor, and Lambda’s backer.
About 350 megawatts is the Reuters source, not a Hut 8 filing. It sits close to one of Beacon Point’s two 352-megawatt phases.
Hut 8’s July 20 exhibit is the on-the-record floor: two 15-year leases, 352 megawatts a phase, 704 megawatts of IT capacity on campus, $19.6 billion contracted value including a 3 percent annual rent escalator, same unnamed “high-investment-grade” tenant. The campus sits against 1,000 megawatts of AEP Texas interconnection. The second phase is designed to Nvidia’s DSX reference architecture.
Shaurya Malwa at CoinDesk asked Hut 8 how much of that 704 megawatts is tied to Lambda and Anthropic, and whether Nvidia is the undisclosed tenant. Hut 8 has not confirmed.
The $35 billion and the $19.6 billion are not a sum. One is a computing-services bill from Lambda, on sources. The other is rent under two leases Hut 8 already filed.
CNA notes Anthropic said last week it will spend $45 billion to rent capacity from Nscale in West Virginia. That is a third contract, a different counterparty, a different state. Adding the headlines invents a capex total nobody printed.
Reuters and the Journal did not print a term for the Lambda offtake.
The Financial Times had earlier reported Nvidia as the tenant at Beacon Point’s 1-gigawatt campus. That prior reporting is not this offtake, and it still left Hut 8’s tenant unnamed on the exhibit.

The only public dollars on this campus are rent to a tenant Hut 8 still will not name.
