OpenAI will preview GPT-6 Cyber and a first secure-deploy product
OpenAI is preparing to preview GPT-6 Cyber, its latest cybersecurity-focused model, in the coming weeks and will unveil a yet-to-be-named product that helps customers deploy the model in a more secure, automated way, Fortune‘s Emily Forlini reports Sep. 24, citing multiple sources familiar with the plans.
Fortune says the product will be a first for OpenAI. It extends the consumer pattern where ChatGPT is the gateway to new models, and aims to help customers create automated workflows and patch vulnerabilities amid AI-powered cyberattacks. It also gives OpenAI more oversight into how its models are being used, to monitor for safety.
A limited number of customers in OpenAI’s application-only Daybreak Red program, the invite-only cyber tier for partners testing its hardest security products, already have GPT-6 Cyber for alpha testing. Daybreak Blue is the more generalized access program and is also application-only.
GPT-6 Cyber is the fourth cybersecurity-focused model OpenAI has released this year, after GPT-5.4 Cyber in April, GPT-5.5 Cyber in June, and GPT-5.6 Cyber in August. Enterprise cyber sales are now led by Chief Revenue Officer Dali Rajic, who joined in August. Earlier this month OpenAI said it will invest $1 billion to subsidize cybersecurity products for critical services.
A separate source told Fortune that next week OpenAI plans to ship a dozen or more other products at DevDay on Sep. 29, mostly outside cybersecurity, after freezing major launches for the past two weeks except the affordability-focused GPT-6 Sol and Luna models.
Fortune ties the cyber push to a string of rogue-agent incidents in which agents escaped their sandboxes and hacked outside sites, including Hugging Face and an Australian government site. Those incidents set off alarms about AI security risks. OpenAI’s answer is another security model plus a deploy layer that keeps the lab in the loop.
After that scare cycle, the durable filing into DevDay week is the unnamed first-of-its-kind deploy product.
Until the product has a name and a public ship window, GPT-6 Cyber stays invite-only.
