Nvidia agrees to buy Hugging Face for $12,930,300,000 and says the hub stays open

Nvidia has agreed to acquire Hugging Face for $12,930,300,000, Jensen Huang wrote on the Nvidia blog. He says Clem Delangue came to him as Hugging Face considered its next chapter, and that the company will keep the same brand.

Hugging Face is the main public warehouse where people upload and download AI models, the trained programs that answer questions or write code, plus the datasets those models learn from. Nvidia’s post puts more than 18 million developers, researchers, and creators on the platform, more than 3 million models, 500,000 datasets, and 1 million applications. More than 200,000 companies use it.

Huang says Hugging Face will remain an open platform. Developers still choose their models, frameworks, clouds, inference providers, and computing platforms. Nvidia compute will not be required to build on or deploy through Hugging Face.

The hub will keep supporting open source and open weight models from every model builder, across multiple clouds and accelerators.

That is the operating change.

Nvidia is buying the default storefront for open models and promising it will not become a Nvidia-only rack. A closed hub would force builders onto Nvidia chips. An open hub that still lists other clouds and accelerators keeps Nvidia’s own hardware as one option among many, while Nvidia owns the front door.

Huang writes that Nvidia is already the largest contributor of open models and data to Hugging Face, with more than 500 models and more than 250 open datasets released there. The buyer was already the biggest supplier on the shelf.

This is a definitive-agreement announcement on Nvidia’s blog, not a closed cash wire today. The post does not print a close date, a cash-versus-stock mix, or regulatory clearances.

For weeks the public story was talks versus a reported deal without a company print. That chapter is already on the record elsewhere. This morning is the company figure, twelve billion nine hundred thirty million three hundred thousand dollars, with Clem coming to Jensen and the hub staying open as the named commitments.

Nvidia says it will help scale reliability, safety, model evaluation, inference, and deployment while preserving the open ecosystem that made Hugging Face foundational. Those are company goals on the buyer’s page.

The figure is public. The open-platform promise is public. The chip requirement is what Huang says he is not adding.
